A very rare Lizard Orchid (Himantoglossum hircinum) has been found on the course. The orchid is unusual looking and only occurs sporadically in a variety of dry European habitats. The plant's common name refers to its lizard like flowers. It transparently gives of a 'goat like' odour!

It bears numerous greenish purple flowers which are densely clustered on a spike about 10-50cm long. The central lip of each flower bears several long, slightly twisted lobes. These lobes resemble, the hind legs of a lizard, hence the common name. Although individuals can live for more than 20 years, it is though that most plants flower only once.
