The Lady Captain’s Day on Tuesday was very well supported by the Ladies Section and the consensus was that it was a huge success. After an early morning deluge and a necessary delay of an hour, over 100 Ladies took to the field and played for the Lady Captain’s Prize in a team fourball competition. Allan Black and his team did a fantastic job in readying the course for play - parts of it had been covered in water at 8.00 - as did the Tony and the Rangers team in getting everyone ready to go at the revised times.

Each team member had to roll a dice on the 1st hole in order to decide the club to use from the tee. A few people had to drive off with their putters! And with hickory drivers to be used on the 12th’s longest drive competition, playing the 17th as a par 5 from the yellow tee box and a compulsory persimmon putter on the 18th green, it wasn’t just a regular game of golf!

Shelagh and Tim with family and friends served Pimms and cakes in the hospitality tent on the 8th as well has handing out 125th gifts. James Evans assisted the Ovacome charity by running a Beat the Pro on the 8th throughout the competition and he also provided a generous prize.

In the evening Shelagh hosted a dinner where the guest speaker was Di Dougherty who is a freelance journalist and sports presenter well known for her TV work on Sky Sports for golf and netball. She has recently been awarded the role of Ambassador at the 2019 Solheim Cup and will be the presenter at the opening ceremony.

The evening commenced with drinks followed by a welcome speech by the Lady Captain where she highlighted how far Ladies golf has come over the last 125 years and the need to look to the future.

The Prize Giving followed when the following awards were announced

1st Prize 82 points - Paula Allbut, Annalisa Bale, Phillipa Perry and Sarah Robins (on last 6 c/b)
2nd Prize 82 points - Julie Frank, Carol McArthur, Maureen Cox and Sarah Peggie
3rd Prize 81 Points - Jane Landsdell, Sharon Parsons, Jenny Carnegie, Liz Purgal

Longest Drive Angie De Figueiredo
Beat the Pro Irene Griffiths (drawn from 22 players)

Fund raising for Ovacome was £671 (with £471 from Beat the Pro and £200 from the sweepstake) There were 15 winners on the sweepstake

After a delicious dinner prepared by Tomasz, Di Dougherty spoke for 40 minutes sharing some of her experiences as a reporter, interviewer and avid golf, rugby and netball fan. She also told some particularly funny stories about Seve Ballesteros.

Di then led a Q&A session where members of the 106 strong audience asked her some challenging questions. Di seemed to really enjoy her visit to Royal Jersey (it was her first trip to the island and she was impressed by the history of the Grouville Links) and we hope that she may come back to visit us again in the future.
