The Royal Jersey Golf Club’s 18-hole ‘Open’ was held in good conditions earlier today.
The event attracted 94 entrants, from all of the Island clubs along with a smattering of entrants from the UK, all playing for the Pallot Bowl (best handicap score) and the Goodchild Trophy (best scratch score).
For the first time in a number of years a single person claimed both trophies. La Moye member Kyle Turmel carded a level par 70 to win the Goodchild Trophy. Off his five handicap he returned a nett 65 to win the Pallot Bowl. He was out in one-under par 35 with birdies at the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 8th. A bogey at the 2nd and double bogey on the par 5 9th failed to derail him as he bounced back with a birdie at 10. Back-to-back bogeys, around the two par 3s, resulted in a back nine of 35.
Runner-up in the Pallot Bowl was Royal Jersey’s Jason Byrne with a nett 68 off his 10 handicap and he edged fellow member, Phil de Figueiredo into third place on a count back.
Winner of the scratch prize with a gross 71 was Royal Jersey’s Alex Guelpa – showing good form before next week’s inter-insular against Guernsey. In second place, on a countback, was CI Champion Harrison Carlyon and in third place, Royal Jersey’s Mat Hague with a 72.
A mention in despatches for John Beattie who aced the 8th hole during his round!!
