The busy weekend for the Club continued with the Club Championships Day yesterday. The day played host to the Men's, Ladies, Seniors and Handicap Club Championship.

Once again conditions were brutally challenging for a major event at the Club this season. After the morning rain cleared the sun came out but along with it a force five wind, which was gusting to the equivalent of a three club wind at times.

The Men's Championship was played over two rounds on the same day and after the morning round Steven Anderson led the way with a round of 72. Behind him were Richard Clarke and Mat Hague with 73's and Sam Jaakola with a 74. In the afternoon, when the wind was at its strongest, Steven followed up with another 72, which was good enough to win the title for the third time. Runner-up was Sam Jaakola who carded a 73 to pip Richard Clarke into third position with his 74.

In the handicap event, Ian Daly's run of form continued. Having won the Island Handicap Championship last weekend, he followed up with victory yesterday with nett rounds of 71 & 67 for a nett total of 138. Runner-up was Richard Clarke a further stroke behind.

In the Ladies event, the first round was played last Tuesday and Helen Lagadu carded a 73 gross to lead by two strokes from Anabelle Lucas-Villar. Also experiencing the tough playing conditions, Helen returned an impressive 78 and Anabelle an 84. Congratulations to Helen for another Club Championship.

The Seniors Championship was played for only the second time, but this time there was trophy donated by the Dobin family in memory of Past Captain and long time supporter of Seniors golf, Clive Dobin. The seniors was only played over one round (and included the first round of any seniors playing in the Club Champs proper). Winning the trophy this year was Stephen Rafferty with an excellent 76. Runner-up was Wayne Stephens with a 77 and a further shot behind was Robbie Messervy.

All the presentations were made at the end of play in the clubhouse and it was great to see 40 odd members staying for the prize giving. Pictured are the Men's and Ladies Club Champions with the Club Captain, Philip Bolton and Lady Captain, Lynne Cottignies.

Club Champion Steven Anderson paid tribute to the condition of the course and the challenge it presented and also endorsed the initiative of holding all the major Club Championship finals on the same day.
