Royal Jersey Golf Club - Local Rules (updated 1st January 2019)

OUT OF BOUNDS – (Rule 18.2) A) the interior of Fort Henry, including the entrance. B) all private property. C) all public roads and pavements with the exception of the public road crossing the 16th (limits defined by white posts)

THE BEACH RULE – (Rule 17) - Red Penalty Area – No Play Zone. If a ball lies or is lost on the beach, the player must, under penalty of one stroke, either a) drop a ball off the beach. The reference point being where the original ball first crossed the edge of the sea wall. In determining the point where the original ball first crossed the edge of the sea wall, the point shall be made by reference to the inside edge of the sea wall, and the sea wall shall include the concrete bunkers adjacent thereto and the path and the sleepers running from the beginning of the fairway to the first concrete bunker. The size of Relief Area measured from the reference point: two club lengths but within these limits: must not be nearer the hole than the reference point and must come to rest in the relief area; or b) take a stroke-and-distance relief (see Rule 14.6)
NOTE: Rule 17 shall be modified accordingly.

INTEGRAL PARTS OF THE COURSE – (Rule 8.1) The outside walls of Fort Henry and the area of the old railway line between the 12th tee and the 12th fairway are integral parts of the course. The ball must be played as it lies or declared unpayable (Rule 19).

FIXED SPRINKLER HEADS – (Rule 16.1) All fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions: If an immovable obstruction is on the player’s line of play, within two club-lengths of the putting green, and is within two club-lengths of the ball, the player may take relief under Rule 16.1b. (Exception – There is no relief under the Local Rule if the player chooses a line of play that is clearly unreasonable.)

IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS (Rule 16) The following are designated as immovable obstructions and relief may be taken:
a) All artificially covered pathways and
b) The hibernacula behind Fort Henry.

PROTECTION OF TREES AND SHRUBS The young trees and shrubs identified by stakes or are wired are no play zones:

• If a player’s ball lies anywhere on the course other than in a penalty area and it lies on or touches such a tree or such a tree interferes with the player’s stance or area of intended swing, the player must take relief under Rule 16.1f.

WRONG GREEN (Rule 13.1f) The player must take relief if their ball is on the wrong putting green under Rule 13.1f. To find the relief area, the wrong green is defined to include the apron of the wrong green
RELIEF FROM ANIMAL DROPPINGS – At the player’s option, animal dung may be treated either as:
• A loose impediment that may be removed under Rule 15.1, or
• Ground under Repair from which relief is allowed under Rule 16.



a) Players are requested to “Ready Golf” as outlined in Rule 6-4, and to maintain a prompt pace of play as required by Rule 5-6.
b) Please rake bunkers, replace divots and repair pitch marks
